It is a mixture of hydrocarbons, mainly pentanes and heavier hydrocarbons, extracted from natural gas, obtained through a fractionation process in depropanizing towers, which separates the lighter hydrocarbons from the heavier ones, the latter remaining at the bottom of the tower. The API of this product is between 50 and 80 degrees API with an RVP between 12 and 14 psi.
Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), is currently, and has been for several years, the most widely used alternative fuel obtained by refining petroleum and during the natural gas extraction process. It is a fuel with a high calorific value, with a very low freezing temperature, it is a colorless gas, with a characteristic propane/butane (methyl mercaptan) odor that can be used for both domestic and industrial use.
It is a hydrocarbon consisting mainly of a mixture of light gases such as methane, although it also usually contains a variable proportion of nitrogen, ethane, CO2, H2O, butane, propane, mercaptans and traces of heavier hydrocarbons.
It is known by the acronym (CNG) – Compressed natural gas, is a fuel for vehicle use that, being economical and environmentally cleaner, is considered a sustainable alternative for the substitution of liquid fuels, it is stored at high pressures.
